Welcome to the fourth preview for Sea of Blood, the exciting advanced campaign expansion for Descent: Journeys in the Dark! In the first preview, we looked at an overview of Sea of Blood. In the second, we discussed the differences between Road to Legend (another advanced campaign expansion) and Sea of Blood. And in the last preview, you got a taste of the gripping new ship-to-ship combat mechanics. This time, we’ll introduce you to one of the Overlord’s menacing avatars and two of the new formidable lieutenants! So ready the crew clear all moorings; today, we set sail for adventure!
From his loathsome den beneath the waves in the Sea of Redtyde, Captain Bones schemes and plots. Generations ago, this vile pirate was the scourge of Torue Albes, but he was betrayed and led into a trap by those he trusted. Rather than submitting to arrest, he fought his would-be captors until his dying breath, with which he muttered a final, hateful curse. Now, he has risen from his watery grave to have his revenge... on all life.
The good Captain’s nautical know-how gives him otherworldly power over all ships under his control... and this influence contributes to their wound threshold, speed, and firepower! But what is a captain without his crew? A handful of new and formidable lieutenants bring their terrifying might to Sea of Blood, and the heroes will have their hands full when facing the fearsome Ghost Ship, or the mighty beast that sailors have jokingly named “Sweetheart!”
Glowing like an eerie blue mist, The Ghost Ship rises from the murky depths to drag the Revenge back down with it. Armed with four Hawkeye rune cannons for precise firing, as well as four Dragonfire rune cannons to blanket its foes in destruction, The Ghost Ship needs no crew; its masts, wheel, and other stations move under ghostly power!
Among the rivers and shores of Torue Albes, fishermen and sailors tell tall tales of a massive beast with rows of razor-sharp teeth and a mouth large enough to swallow an orc whole. Some say her name comes from her desire to “hug” everyone she meets, but when Sweetheart catches unwary heroes in her crushing grip, they soon learn that there’s little affection to be found there - although she can only grapple one hero at a time, attacks against that hero are all considered aimed! This, along with and ironlike hide, massive reach, and piercing bite, make this “sweetheart” a costly date.

Serioussly, more expansions like that and I will finally decide to go into Descent.
I agree with the Doom comments. A Road to Legend system for Doom would be awesome.

Knuckles Eki is right. Doom has such a potential, it's a shame you don't release anything for it.
Ok, more previews about this new Descent expansion. But what I can see is the potential that these stuff can be converted to use in DOOM! FFG, why don't you do THAT? I don't see why you can't use these ideas to expand DOOM further. After all, Descent's basic mechanics were TAKEN from DOOM, I see no sense why Descent should keep getting new expansions and not have the ideas from them used for DOOM as well.
A Diamond Level Skeleton w/o Undying. Unless he has some seriously good upgrades and a Keep that is seriously kinked towards him, Bones is going to be a pushover in the final fight.
Love the art and ideas being introduced into this expansion. KEEP IT UP!
i read the cards for the luitenants and i noticed that he crocadile thing is for the pirate only and the ship is for any avatar, personally i think it should be the other way around, a pirate and a pirate ship. it seems kind of obvious to me, but there is prabaly a reason for there doing, and i have not personally played road to legend before so i might be missing something.

Questions I have about the new expansion:
Will there be Avatars with statistics of the new aquatic monsters?
Any new Treasures?
Finally, I find at the moment the most unbalancing with RtL happens at Gold Level (up to Gold level, players have a great time, maybe at Copper a bit too rough for them), because the Heroes get a lot of surges when rolling the dice and the objects they get give them a lot of extra damage... Has this been taken care of?
Interesting to see that Avatar's aren't automatically tiered like in RtL. Cpt Bones Monster/Trap Treachery and Humanoid/Eldritch monsters are the same.
So does that mean if you have Ctp. Bone's as your avatar and you play the ghost ship. The Ghost ship ends up with 25% hp and +2 to range and +1 to combat. HMMMM!!!!! Looking forward to finding out .
