|Descent: Journeys In The Dark | Published 01 September 2009|
This fall sees the release of the newest expansion for Descent: Journeys in the Dark. The Sea of Blood expansion is an advanced campaign, much like the popular Road to Legend expansion. While not compatible with Road to Legend, the dungeons and rumors can be seamlessly combined. Sea of Blood also features an updated and streamlined advanced campaign system.
Advanced campaigns feature the full hero party, much like a standard Descent game, but allows the party to keep their their items and skills between game sessions, through many encounters, as opposed to a one night experience. Heroes gain experience and items to aid them in their quest, yet they must take care. As they gain experience and level up, the Overlord gains power as well. Dread Lieutenants, enforcers of the Overlord's will, haunt the lands. The hero party must take care that these grim agents do not prevent them from reaching valuable training grounds, or even worse, raze cities to the ground. The campaign culminates in an epic battle with an avatar of the Overlord, deep in its lair.
Sea of Blood takes this campaign to the high seas. Hero parties venture forth around the Island of Torue Albes. As much a member of the party as any hero, their ship, the Revenge, is fully upgradable. Boasting four different types of rune cannons, magical figureheads, expanded decks, and a number of other options, players will have the chance to customize their ship just as they want it.
As the heroes sail to new dungeons to explore, they will be faced with battle on the briny deep! Enemy ships will assault them and attempt to both remove the pesky heroes as well as sink their ship. Boarding parties swing over the sides, while sharks swarm in the waters below. Cannon fire echoes across the waves as the heroes desperately fend off the invading force.
Once the heroes reach their destination, they must overcome the minions blocking their entrance into the cave. Fighting on the surface of the island they have discovered gives the heroes a new challenge, as the terrain is a mix of land and sea. Upon entering the cave, two dungeons stand between the heroes and their goal. All in all there are 30 new dungeons awaiting the heroes as well as 10 new island encounters, and each provides a distinct challenge.
The Overlord gains four new avatars to become – The Master of the Hunt, Captain Bones, the Mistress of Serpents, and the Count. Each avatar possesses unique abilities and upgrades. In addition to the new avatars, there are seven lieutenants to spread the will of the Overlord. Three of these are available for any avatar to enlist, and each avatar has their own lieutenant to call upon.
Descent: Sea of Blood is a full campaign that is able to incorporate every Descent expansion. Also included in the first print run, as identified by a sticker on the box, is a promotional figure. Nara the Fang will be included in every box of the first print run – there is no form to fill out, nothing to send in, just the figure and card in the box for your enjoyment.
Over the coming weeks, we will be highlighting each of the above additions. Make sure to check back and see what new terrors and adventures are coming to the lands of Descent!
Descent: Journeys in the Dark is a scenario-driven board game that takes a party of adventurers deep into the dungeons of Terrinoth for adventure, treasure, and glory, but beware: the Overlord and his minions stand poised to oppose any heroes foolhardy enough to enter the dungeon. Descent: Sea of Blood takes the game to the next level, introducing campaigns and long-term character development for both the heroes and the Overlord. Cross the dungeon's threshold and step into a world of adventure today!
My question is if this supplement can be used ONLY with the Basic game...do we need ANY of the expansions to play it?
Надеюсь будет зачетный адон
trans: I hope it will be final addon
THIS is not correct trans. I mean The Addon will be great or smth like that, but not final ))
I just wanted to check what will you be doing with russian slang . Sorry ))
I wonder if we can use the better campaign rules for RtL in some areas of gameplay, would be nice. :)
I think it's still a pity they didn't expand on the normal RtL first, meaning more plots and stuff, but we'll see.
I am already earmarking money in my bank account for this.
I can't wait to read the new streamlined campaign rules myself.

oh this looks super great!!!.... cant wait to battle on the high seas!!!!
This is really cool! I don't see myself buying it because I have RtL, but I like the idea of this product more than what I already have.
I thought this would bring something new to the RTL, other then being a reinvention of the wheel. Still looks good, but would I buy it, and be asking my players. "So should we take to the seas or remain on land?" I think not as it is right now.
Surely its compatible with RTL, as you can use all dungeons from rtl and use it with the new expansion. On the other hand, you can use the new rumorcards etc. with your RTL. But it seems that you have to decide which campaign you want to play, RTL or the new one.
So for me, this expansin delivers new cards, new dungeons, new Monster?, new Markers. But the idea with the ship, I don't know. But this is a point erveryone got to decide for himself. I don't like it. Overall this one seems to be RTL version 1.3.
At least i'll buy this one, because of the new dungeons and cards. And who knows, if the rules are good, the balancing better our next campaign will be on sea.
While not compatible with Road to Legend, the dungeons and rumors can be seamlessly combined. Descent: Sea of Blood is a full campaign that is able to incorporate every Descent expansion.
Which of the above is true? They seem to be directly contradicting one another. Is this compatible with RTL? IE: Can we extend our current RTL campaign to the seas? Or is it not compatible?
really nice News. But Nara will be only in first wave of printed expansion ... hope I got ones
