The Nightmare Before Christmas Tournament Wrap-Up

Now Christmas is over and the nightmare is gone.
Our towns are all safe and we've greeted the dawn.
Friends from all over answered the call,
They met all together at every games hall.

This past month, game stores across the United States and Canada played host to the Nightmare Before Christmas tournament of Kingdom Hearts TCG. Tournament organizers from all over sent in their reports and photographs; here are some of the highlights.

Michael Lum at Skyhaven Games in Victoria, Canada, describes his winning deck of the tournament held there as a "Player Killer" deck. The deck includes no worlds, but runs "Large Body, Barrel Spider, Wizards, and Wyvern (with one Wight Night), about 10 attack cards (no Pumpkinheads!), and friends, including three Bambi level 2s, and one Genie." The "Player Kill" deck's victory seems to have been unexpected by most. "Player Kill I'm told isn't good, over and over, by everyone. But for some reason I keep winning with it. An exact copy of my deck is floating around and continues to come in last, which causes a lot of debate over the deck type."

At Black Dog Enterprises in Lubbock, Texas, Ranie Boardman went undefeated in three rounds of Swiss to win the day. It seems that Black Dog, like many stores, made use of the instructional video to teach the game on the day of the tournament — and just learning to play that day didn't keep anyone from winning!

Rey Garza of Collect A Card N Comics seems to have run out of both demo decks and product for sale over the course of the Chicago, Illinois event. "I was overwhelmed with people… wanting to Demo the game. So me and 2 of my friends were Demoing Kingdom hearts all the way ‘til the Start of the Event at 7PM."

OMG! Cards and Collectibles in Barrie, Ontario, Canada, turned their event into a complete Kingdom Hearts experience, according to Rob Johnson. "We had the movie playing in the background, and both Kingdom hearts PS2 games and Chain of Memories available for people to play as well. …we've now set up a mini League of players who play every week. We had a really fun time, and we're looking forward to doing more in the future."

Julian Stam of Woolverine Games in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania, had this to say: "This was the best introductory tournament for new gamers that we have ever had. The game was easy to teach, victory strategies were varied enough to get people thinking, and everyone said they had a blast!"

All Things Fun in West Berlin, New Jersey had a tremendous event. "It was a great event, we had just over 30 players on a cold, rainy night in December! We sold a ton of packs! Thanks to the guys at Fantasy Flight for putting this together. We can't wait for the next event!" Kingdom Hearts TCG is even on the front page of All Things Fun's website, announcing a new weekly event!

Keep watching the Kingdom Hearts website for news on how you can take part in the next tournament!
