Updated June 17, 2008

Hollow World is an online roleplaying game based in the universe of Warhammer 40k and Dark Heresy. We do not strictly use a rules system, but instead our Game Masters and Players employ free form storytelling to move along their adventures.

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/HollowWorld40K/

We are currently seeking new Game Masters to run additional plotlines, as well as new players to help create these new plots or to join existing ones.

During the summer, I plan to start up a new plot which will very much be along the lines of a Dark Heresy game, and will feature a group of Inquisitorial Agents searching out the things that go bump in the night. It will be oriented towards elements of mystery and horror, with a focus on roleplaying, investigation and problem solving. Appropriate characters would include Dark Heresy Characters, Hired Guns from Necromunda, Inquisitorial Agents from Inquisitor, or Inquisitorial Retinue from the Daemonhunter and Witch Hunter Codexes.

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/HollowWorldDH/

We also currently have several ongoing games, plus additional roleplaying opportunities.

The first is based on the Space Wolves Chapter of Space Marines, and features a number of characters from the Ragnar novels. They are currently launching an assault into a Necron Stronghold.

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/HollowWorldSW/

The second is based on an Adeptus Mechanicus Expedition to the blasted Rad World of Beryl to investigate the possible location of an STC device.

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/HollowWorldAM/

The third is a loose-knit group of various Imperial Guardsmen and other Imperial Servants (sort of a catch-all) who are currently fighting Tyranids on Hollow World itself. The IGs are currently part of a crossover adventure with the Space Marines, Inquisition and Tau.

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/HollowWorldIG/

The fourth is a group from the Tau Empire, made up of Tau, Kroot, Vespid and other races, who are part of a diplomatic and trade fleet visiting Hollow World, but also enacting their own plans for the Greater Good. The Tau are also part of the crossover event.

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/HollowWorldTE/

The newest plot, just starting up, features members of the Grey Knights.

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/HollowWorldGK/

In addition, we have Morg’s Pit, which is a tavern area and general purpose welcome area for new characters, run by me, with a rogues gallery of NPCs.

We also will be starting up games for Deathwatch Space Marines, Sisters of Battle, and Eldar in the near future.

If you have any interest in running a plotline as a Game Master, or a new idea for a game group in which you would want to participate, please let me know and I will do my best to make this happen, as far as finding a GM and/or players for that plot.

If you have any questions, please contact BlkSabbath74@yahoo.com

That sounds awesome!

What sort of characters are you looking for?

Well, just about any character type from Dark Heresy would work, except for Tech-Priests, and only because we already have an Adeptus Mechanicus specific plot. The following DH characters would all work;

Adept
Assassin
Cleric
Enforcer
Guardsman
Sanctioned Psyker
Scum
Sister of Battle

In addition, any of the Necromunda Hired Guns would work, to include;

Bounty Hunter
Crazy Doc
Defense Force Deserter
House Agent
Nomad Guide
Ogryn Bodyguard
Pit Slave
Ratskin Scout
Rogue Handler
Scum
Shaman
Sniper
Wyrd

Also, a number of the Inquisitor Arhcetypes would work;

Assassin
Desperado
Ecclesiarch
Enforcer
Fanatic
Imperial Guard
Mutant
Rogue Trader

Finally, any of the following Witch Hunter/Daemonhunter retinue;

Acolyte/Interrogator/Explicator
Chirurgeon/Torturer/Excoriator/Sister Hospitalier
Death Cult Assassin
Familiar/Cherubim/Servo-skull/Psyber-eagle
Hierophant/Castigator/Ecclesiarchy Priest/Exorcist
Imperial Assassin
Mystics/Astropath/Warp-Seer/Sanctioned Psyker
Penitent/Bound Psyker/Penitent Witch/Pariah/Untouchable
Sage/Autosavant/Lexmechanic/Calculus Logi
Warrior/Imperial Guard Veteran/Combat-Servitor/Gun-Servitor /Crusader

Obviously, there's some overlap there, and some of the above would be difficult to play, but that's basically most of the ideas.

Oh, BTW, thats just for the Dark Heresy game...

We have multiple other games, and would pretty much be willing to sponsor whatever additional games that GMs were willing to run.

So where does the game part come in, this sounds more like a role story writing. Sounds fun if your into story telling. Where does the gunplay and skills come into it.

I guess, in a way, it really is more of a roleplay, strictly speaking.

Basically, you make up a character, and post the actions of that character. Meanwhile, the GM of that respective plot posts the actions of the enemies and NPCs and the outcomes of all the actions. We actually started out with a system, but over the last 4 years have sort of evolved beyond needing one.

We kicked around the idea of implementing the Dark Heresy system, but decided to just keep going with our instincts.

We DO have alot of fun!

Check it out if you're interested!

We are looking for potential GMs as well as players.

Can you tell me, in broad strokes, a little bit about each of your other games?

What are the plots, without giving anything away? What characters are already involved, and what sort of characters are you looking for?

Thanks!

Well, let me do one at a time, just from a time perspective...

The oldest running game is the Space Wolves game, which started with a single player playing the character of Ragnar Blackmane, and is now probably the largest game we have going.

The premise is that Ragnar and all the other Space Wolves who are in danger of succumbing to the beast and becoming Wulfen have fled to the far ends of the galaxy, to fight Chaos without risking the lives of their fellow Space Wolves, or the reputation of their chapter by keeping its greatest secret.

The story thus far...

The Space Wolves began rather spectacularly by raiding a Blackstone Fortress in the possession of a Chaos Lord, which they took possession of, cleansed, and now use as their central base in the Hollow World region. Since then, they have participated in numerous defenses and adventures. Currently, they are cleaning out a tombful of Necrons in the Necron Mountain plotline.

Even I can't keep up with all the characters, off the top of my head, but here is a rough list;

Ragnar Blackmane (GM Character)
Ivarr Wolfhammer the Dreadnought (GM from another plot)
Iron Priest Licinus
Rune Priest Eadulf Bernson
Wolf Priest Thorleif
Wolfblade Wolfguard Haegr (this is mine, playing Haegr from the novels)
Grey Hunter Wolfguard Haagron Wraithmaw
Grey Hunter Wolfguard Rak'Toe Demius
Blood Claw Wolfguard Borne Sixtoe
Blood Claw Wolfguard Loran Bloodscowl
Blood Claw Wolfguard Kjel Bloodmaw
Scout Wolfguard Sweyen

Personally, I would love to see other characters from the novels, such as Torin, Sven and even Strybjorn.

Anyway, that's a pretty brief overview.

Okay, next game

Arguably the second oldest game in our group is based around the Imperial Guard, although there are also 3 Ultramarines and a Sensei involved. It has been the catch-all plot of Hollow World for some time, although I would really like to reconsolidate it and give it more of a true Imperial Guard flavor.

It was actually begun by a different player, and the current GM took over the survivors of the initial plotline. It basically involves an Imperial Guard regiment commanded by a Commissar-General and assembled from the survivors of multiple units. It began as a single squad, and has evolved into a full regiment as the characters have been promoted and taken on new missions.

Anyway, several of the main characters have dropped out for different reasons during the last 6 months, and we are currently wrapping up a major clash between the IGs and the Tyranids, but after that I look forward to regrouping the plotline.

If anyone would be interested in playing an Imperial Guardsman, this would be ideal!

I feel like I'm talking to myself here...but...

The third oldest, and second largest RPG we have is an Adeptus Mechanicus specific game.

The premise is that the AM have heard rumors of the potential existence of a previously undiscovered STC device of Beryl, a Radworld devestated by atomic war during the Dark Age of Technology, and overrun with mutant tribes and other mutated monsters.

I am currently running it, and have been suprised all along by the popularity of the group.

We currently have the following players
5 Tech-Priests (2 Magos, 1 Biologis, 2 Enginseers)
2 Skitarri (1 Major, 1 Sergeant)
1 Iron Hands Space Marine
3 Knight Titan Pilots
1 Warlord Titan Princeps

One would think that the inclusion of Titans would upset game balance, but they are actually rarely used. Most of the places the group goes are too small for the effective use of Titans.

The Princeps, whose player also runs one of the Enginseers, generally remains with his Titan to act as a fallback point and artillery support.

The Knight Pilots disembark and accompany the ground team.

I will eventually give the Titans something to worry about though.

Anyway, this is a really strong group, though I would love to see the addition of an Electro Priest or an Adept of some sort (Auto-Savant, Lexmechanic, ect).

Good to know...

Well, our fourth game is the Tau Empires game.

We have 2 Tau, a Kroot, and a Vespid, thus far, and are looking to add new players.

This one has only just started up. Its actually a restart of a game that fell apart a while back.

It's fun, but a bit tricky, having them in with all the Imperials.

We've taken the tack that they have a trade fleet, and are establishing diplomatic ties.

We still have plenty of problems, and its a bit unrealistic for the 40K universe of Total War.

On the other hand, I'd rather have those problems than NOT have a Tau group.

How about a plot where the players each play a primary member of the crew of an Imperial Battleship?

You could have the captain, first officer, mechanicus majoris, navigator, commissar, flight leader for the fighter groups, commander of the armsmen, astropath, ect.

I just read Relentless, and think that could be cool.

Yes, that DOES sound like it could make a good plot...especially aboard a rogue trader's ship...

Yeah, I think they had the layout of the ships crew in the old Rogue Trader book, to include attached Imperial Guards and Marines...

Not sure how much of that fluff would still be applicable!

Well, to answer the question, we have recently split into multiple groups...a central hub, plus one for each of our game plotlines.

Basically, each GM has their own group and their own site.

I can post the individual addresses of you are interested...

Not really...

If you can follow a link you can find any of the sattelite groups.

It basically helps lighten our posting volume by spreading it around. Players only need to recieve mail, or check messages online, for the groups in which they are participating.

It allows the players to have as much or little activity as they want, as well as being able to check messages on the web, or through email.

Frankly, if someone can't figure out a few links, then I don't necessarily want them in our game.

;-p
