Just a fun idea that I haven’t seen on the boards. But what would you look like as a character in Dark Heresy? Career paths are not necessary here.

All characteristics I’ve used are judged on the assumption that 30 is average and nothing deviates far from it. The low end is typically 26 and the high end is typically 35. Although some characteristics can go above or below. Reference table 1-2 on page 23 of the core book.

@peacekeeper_b. Good call on the military skills. I didn’t think too much about that. I could add those for mine.

Peer (Military)

Forbidden Lore (Top Secret Clearance)

I knew someone was going to say Carouse. But +20 for 7 years of college, 7 years in military? That’s hilarious! Good call!

Something about 40k Appeals to Soldiers and Marines. There are at least four marines in my company who are into 40k. They're not exactly classic gamers, either. Its endlessly surprising how many marines I meet who are obsessed with 40k. Why? I don't yet understand.

I’m prior service Air Force. The number one reason I got back into 40k (after about 10 years) was that guys in the barracks were playing. It relieved some of the stigma of “tabletop gamers = dorks”.

It’s rare to find a good gaming group. But there are some out there. The best groups I've seen typically consist of college students/grads and/or military (both active and prior service). IMHO

Just my 2 cents on the subject.

Im wondering if some of you aren't being a bit conservative on your scores?

Im going to try and work out some scores based on what I know I can do and how they compare to the charts in the book.

BS I put mine at least at 50 (I have not yet missed a target up to 500m (rifle), 50m (pistol), with an aimed shot. So +30 for surprised opponent (target or deer I am hunting at the time), + 20 for aim + 50 BS = 100 percent hit rate (with well over 10000 rounds fired down range and a good number of deer in the freezer over the years).

STR and TOU I worked out from table 7-31: carrying, lifting & Pushing. I can olympic lift 100kg (I can deadlift more put went for the harder of the two types of lifting) and carry 45 kg over moderate terrain for 10 hours (the chart doesnt give a specified time so based it the time qualifier from table 7-29: Narrative Movement). So that would give a combined SB and TB of 7, due to accumulated injuries though I would put my TOU in the 20's so that would leave the STR in the 50's. So say 51 STR and 26 TOU.

Looking at table 7-29: Narrative Movement, I can walk for 6km an hour for 10 hours on moderate terrain, so that gives me an AB of 4 so Agility somewhere in the 40's. And on table 7-28 movement (metres/round) I tested that to check and yes I can run 24 metres in 5 seconds, so again an AB of 4.

Anybody else tried to compare what they are able to do with these charts?

well well i dont think anyone with toughness 26 can carry 45kg load for 10 hours, that calls for like 38+ based on the 31 average human statistic

Well, on the BS I'd say you're taking time to Aim for a full round(+20), have an accurate weapon (+10), and a red-dot laser sight (+10), and attacking a suprised target (+30), gives you an actual bonus of +70 to your shots. Giving you a base BS of only 30. Considering your experience, I'd still put it in the 40s, though.

For the strength, I'd say 40, and TOU 30. Don't count your injuries against your toughness. generally more injuries means a greater tolerance for pain and understanding of whats going on - organ shock usually does more damage than the injury itself.

And, yeah, AG 4 makes sense too. Granted, a lot of your stats are due to your military training, and not everyone has that. Me, I'd be some fat, corpulescent, heavily-augmented tech-priest (I'm a Biomedical Engineer), so I couldn't really just translate my "stats" over. Needless to say, they'd be in the upper 20s, low 30s at best.

Nah, my BS is definately +50 (Marksman score on my last test), give me a red dot and I dont need to take time to aim to hit a statitic (or moderately moving) target, and Ive never shot pistol with anything other than iron sights, nor would I call a glock an accurate weapon :-p .

But I would think most military with a combat mos should have a BS above 40. 30 is human average, 60 is max human potential (top competition level shooting). So I would hope most combat trained soldiers would be above average, otherwise their country doesnt have very good training.

I reckon my TOU has gone down because my body breaks down easier than it used too as a young buck. But my STR is definately in the +50 (My max deadlift is 250kg, my max olympic lift would be better than it is but I dont train it heavy due to various injuries).

Edit: I guess my TOU probably is still in the 30's as everytime I do break myself Im doing something that normal people wouldnt do . When I first looked at table 7-31: carrying, lifting & Pushing I thought that I probably could claim to have a SB + TB of 8, but didnt want anyone to accuse me of power gaming, so went with 7 instead

As the rules of DH give the human genetic potential to be between 20 and 60 I would excpect there to be a bit more spread in abilities in real life, and a few more people with abilities above in the +40's. Seriously if you have a PhD (depending on what it is in) I would think your Int should be above 40.

The problem is most stats count for many things. So I gave me Ag 26 even though I am a fast runner and have very fast reaction (was a hockey goaley after all). The problem is my dexterity is really bad, so my fine motor skills are really bad either...

I would say that that is a flaw in the system (looks around for Code 13). Perhaps the charts need modified? Or perhaps we change the way Bonuses work. Instead of using the tens place, round to the nearest tens place. So S 46-55 would be SB 5 and so forth. The issue there is damage is shifted up by 1 point 50% of the time for melee combat, and toughness bonus is shifted up by 1 point 50% of the time against all damage.

But thats the biggest flaw in most RPGs, real world movement, leaping and lifting.

Im going to have to look into this some more.

Army here. RPGs are a easy form of entertainment. When I was down range, on a night of no work (we had them occassionally LOL) all you needed were pencils, paper, a single rule book and dice. You can load that stuff easily in your assault bag and take the game where ever you go.

Now being stationed in the middle of nowhere Germany, its either 20 Euro train ride to nearest big city, 100 euro hotel and bunch of euro exploring the city. So many of us only go out once or twice a month ont he other weekends (when we arent training) we watch movies, play video games and recently began a RPG group.

In fact we are playing Dark Heresy here in a few hours.
