Young, Rodger W., Private, 148th Infantry, 37th Infantry Division (the Ohio Buckeyes); born Tiffin, Ohio, 28 April 1918; died 31 July 1943, on the island of New Georgia, Solomons, South Pacific, while singlehandedly attacking and destroying an enemy machine-gun pillbox. His platoon had been pinned down by intense fire from this pillbox; Private Young was wounded in the first burst. He crawled toward the pillbox, was wounded a second time but continued to advance, firing his rifle as he did so. He closed on the pillbox, attacked and destroyed it with hand grenades, but in so doing he was wounded a third time and killed.
His bold and gallant action in the face of overwhelming odds enabled his teammates to escape without loss; he was awarded posthumously the Medal of Honor. |

I've found it near impossible to get anything here. Have resorted to sending my money directly off shore via E Bay. Walrus and Carpenter (Tin Soldier) is doing the importing for Australia so its a snail pace trickle (as usual). As the Aussie $ has been so strong against the US$ its actually been cheaper to buy from there than locally anyway. A single seat including postage exchange etc for AUS$13.35 and a two seater for AUS$15.00 , compared to $19.95 for a single and $25+ for a two seater locally.

Stop making fun of our economic situation.
I see it only getting worse in the next 10 years or more.

Stoj, I hope you're not being serious?
Well, all I need are minis and the gas to drive to my buddies to duke it out WWI style!!
Hey, I always thought the US Military's M.R.E.s (Meal Ready to Eat)were OK in my younger days, so Vegemite...M.R.E..., hell, after a couple beers, who cares! Bring on the minis!

Nothing like Vegemite to bring on renal failure from super high blood pressure in later life.
Vegemite is black for one reason "ITS EVIL"
Ahh! Yes! The days of 55 cents in the dollar, that was 1987-88 when I had packed my bag and went touring around the world, had to come home earlier than planned because the money ran out twice as past as I had realized. "I'm sorry sir but your credit card has been declined, Boris handcuff this man to the kitchen sink". Thank goodness for my emergency AM-X card, gave me the cash I needed to get home of course at about 42% interest............ Those were the days, took me 15 months to pay off that $300.
Just add too that even though the US dollar is struggling its still cheaper to buy stuff from you guys that YOU IMPORT than it is anywhere else. Well except for China of course.

R_W, is it just me, or does it strike you as odd that both the US & Australia have two planes now represented in this game as miniatures, and the French have only ONE!!!!
Two Australian Snipes, a US Spad & Airco DH.4...
I hope the French get a little more love in set three, I mean come on, I like the whole Allied representation thing going on, but I think the French rate more than just one plane in their colors! Unless it's some kind of whacky marketing ploy!
This whole game has me reading & looking for WWI aerial combat books, and I'm reading about a lot of French pilots...and not seeing a lot of minis in French colors!
I like the US minis and all, but you've got to give credit where credit is due. Now don't get me wrong, I think getting the different Allied nations represented is great, I'd just like to see some more minis in French colors, is all.

ROFLMAO!!!
Uncle Sam has decided to send out an "extra" economic relief tax refund starting right about now, supposed to help give the economy a shot in the arm. The running joke at work is:
Spend the money at Wal Mart and it goes to China...
Spend the money on food, it goes to Mexico, Honduras and Guatamala...
Spend the money on a good quality car, it goes to Japan...
Spend it on computers and it goes to India...
Spend it on gas and it goes to the Middle East...
The only way to keep that money here stateside is to spend it on football tickets and beer!

Could be just a coincidence, I'd also bet its a marketing move. Seems though the Aussies may get an RE8 mini in the next set and two SE5a cards as mentioned in the Dogfight Booster pack as hinted at the end of the Ryrie thread.
I'm surprised there are so few French planes and no Italians, I would have thought the Spads would have been represented by a Frenchman, an Italian and a Brit and then kept the Nieuports in Set three solely for the Americans.

One of the Spads is actually an Italian, the tan one. The roundel is red outside, white, then green in the center. It's hard to tell it from the French roundel. Angiolillo made mention of that Italian military sent out instructions to mark their aircraft with green, white and red roundels, but initially made no indication as to the sequence of the colors. So in the begining, some units marked their aircraft red, white and green from the outside in until the higher ups clarified things.
I can't recall the pilots name on the tan Spad, but on the underside of the wings it's painted red and green.
So the Allies have the UK, France, Belgium, Italy, Australia and the US so far in miniatures, which we all know, is where this game is at!

Well, I've got to be honest here...I've never really met any beer I didn't like!
I can very nearly honestly say that! Actually, there have been one, maybe two or so beers that I've not wanted to try again...but I'll rarely admit it!

I'd have to go and get my minis, but I'm fairly certain that two of the three Sopwith Snipes are piloted by Australians, or so the cards say. I happen to think that that is extremely cool.

Yes I'm an Idiot. I have the box of planes sitting just off to the side and realized that I completely FUBAR'ed the last post. I also have some other "brand" SPAD's mixed in with the lot and at a glance I got confused as they are all similar (The extras are from pre-paints from Japan 2 x SPAD's and 2x Albatros DIII's) and I just didn't look properly before I "thinked".

Sorry my PC crashed in the middle of typing the last reply, now the thread has the continuity of an Australian soap opera.
The Australian Planes are two of the Sopwith Snipes from the newly released second set. Baker's WW08e and Ryrie's WW08f Both are AFC planes from 4 Squadron

I think the one time I had Fosters was in 88', in England, on an airbase. It was on tap, and the locals introduced us...all I can tell you was that it was good. I can't remember the rest!

Was that you, or did anyone ever find out who Ryrie was? I lost track of that thread...

I like to try to expand my horizons, and I am always willing to try new beers. I have my favorites...ones I'd try to avoid a second time around, but one thing I've noticed is that the beers are only as good as the company you keep when drinking them.

I think the one time I had Fosters was in 88', in England, on an airbase. It was on tap, and the locals introduced us to it on tap...all I can tell you was that it was good. I can't remember the rest!
Nah! It wasn't really good it was actually bad, so bad that the chemicals in it scrambled your memory to make your recall believe it was good.
My first hangover was when I was 16 and yachting. It was caused from an extreme over indulgence of that dreaded liquid. Funny thing is I never got a hangover from any other beer...... well not that I can still remember.......See I told you it was bad, beer that clear and pale shouldn't give you a hangover.......... I only drank about a 2 dozen cans that afternoon and it shouldn't have sent me to sleep either.......
