A look at the gift bag for attendees of Arkham Nights, an upcoming event

I recall that the people went about with pale and worried faces, and whispered warnings and prophecies which no one dared consciously repeat or acknowledge to himself that he had heard. A sense of monstrous guilt was upon the land, and out of the abysses between the stars swept chill currents that made men shiver in dark and lonely places.
- H.P. Lovecraft, "Nyarlathotep"
It is nearly upon us. The prophecies warn of a great gathering, where powerful forces will convene to face unimaginable unearthly horrors... and to decide humanity’s fate. But who will rise up in mankind’s hour of need? With what weapons will they fight this growing evil? And what otherworldly artifacts will they claim from its clutches?
Back in June we announced Arkham Nights, a three-day event celebrating FFG’s Cthulhu Mythos-themed board and card games. October 22nd-24th, join us at the spacious Fantasy Flight Games Event Center in Roseville, MN for three days of supernatural horror and cosmic dread! With tournaments, seminars, a costume contest, and more, Arkham Nights will immerse you in the occult horror of H.P. Lovecraft’s chilling universe, and unless you keep your wits about you, the price may be your very sanity...
But if you aren’t among those who have already signed up for this momentous event, hurry to our webstore to reserve your space today! Attendees will receive a gift bag full of exciting exclusive Cthulhu-themed content, including:
Arkham Nights presents a weekend of gaming deeply immersed in Lovecraftian horror through our board game Arkham Horror as well as our Living Card Game Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game. The date is fast approaching, and unimaginable otherworldly horrors stand poised to invade Roseville, Minnesota. Will you stand against them? Register today, and prepare to be lost in time and space!
The Fantasy Flight Games Event Center is a spacious gaming facility offering a variety of exciting hobby gaming events in one comfortable and welcoming location. Located at 1975 Oakcrest Avenue in Roseville, MN, the Fantasy Flight Games Event Center is open for gaming six days a week.
Please find a way to make these items available for avid fans of Arkham Horror from other countries. Travelling to Minnesota from England isn't really affordable on a regular basis, no matter how much I might want to!
Do you get a full playset of the new cards, or just one copy of each?
Uhm the game might be out of print but you can still get it online from many retailers including all of the expansions. If you want the game so bad go buy it online and get it. If you want an example of a BG out of print and out of stock everywhere try something like War of the Ring. When AH starts selling for a couple hundered dollars online than you can be upset.
Battlelore is a lot trickier to get reprinted for many reason but essential it comes down to the cost. It is very well known the base game was produced with a very slim if any profit margin in mind in order to reap the rewards of expansions later. Unfortunately that didn't work out and the company went belly up. FFG is not stupid enough to try that and as they have said before the cost to produce a reprint would FAR exceed the price of one of their $100 games.
As for this article i hope everyone has a great time at the event i wish i could be there. :)
@Darkkami If you have concerns about how FFG is handling their games, take them to Christian. Posting here is not going to get them taken under consideration.
As for Arkham being OOP, considering it is one of their best selling games, it will happen. And if you are a member of their mailing list (like my store is), you should have received an email from them saying that Arkham will be available both in late September/early October and also closer to X-mas in two waves.
I love FFGs games. Many of their games. There isn't a week that goes by that I personally don't play at least three different games they make in my store, and their games are the ones that are played the most of all of our in-store demo copies. I'm glad they make "150 otherproducts" besides Arkham Horror, because it gives me variety. And I'm glad the fan base is creating extra stuff for us to play with. Because although I agree there can never be enough stuff for Arkham Horror, I occasionally want to play other games too (particularily A Game of Thrones LCG). <end rant>
As for this event, I was looking forward to it before, but the goodie bag is got me slavering like a shoggoth! Or perhaps a Dark Young. I especially want the monster bag, and truly hope a) it is big enough to hold all the current (and upcoming) mosnters, and b) tht this stuff is made available to non-attendees, just like the Realms of Terrinoth goodies were.
Man this event sounds like fun. I will all the energy I would have spent being upset about not being able to go into building a great Cthulhu costume and reading more HP....and of course playing some Arkham Horror!
I think I am most excited about the chance to meet the creators of a game I really enjoy and hear about its inception and creation. I think FFG is doing a good job promoting the game and a player base by throwing these mini-cons in the first place and I hope they continue to do them for all their popular games. And while the swag is cool its not supposed to be the main motivator for going.
I agree with what Curator said. All of it. FFG should support its fans by a) having the base game available and b) supporting all these great games with a significant fan base. The only way for a business to grow is repeat business. How are you going to sell the expansions if the base game isn't available? How will you sell awesome games if they have no support from the people who make them?
1) Tannhauser (where is that Daedelus expansion?)
2) Blue Moon (the base game is OOP and out of stock, everywhere I looked!)
3) Battlelore (the base game reprint is having issues when FFG acquired it from DOW but the expansions keep coming)
We love you FFG, but please hear these legitimate concerns out. Thanks.
Aw man, I *HATE* these special game nights, not because they're a bad idea but because I live too far away to attend!!!
Please tell me you're going to sell these grab bags during the Christmas Sale?!? :D
Sounds cool - still going to be upset if you don't make this available to those of us that can't come. I mean, I can't afford to fly from England for your event - otherwise I'd be there.
Also, the base game is being reprinted (just check the upcoming page). There's also a few copies at Timewellspent if you desparately need one. FFG is celebrating one of it's games and you have to act like a drunk ex-boyfriend.
Seriously, why bother posting on the events section if you want to cry about the other games? You answered your own complaint- AH is their most popular game, therefore it gets a lot of attention. Also if you check the upcoming page most of that stuff is unrelated to AH.
But congrats to FFG for their event center, this event, and all of the other events like the ones for Terrinoth, Game of Thrones and Warhammer.
It sucks to be you.
They reprint Arkham Horror pretty frequently
