Welcome back to another “card of the week” spotlight for Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game! Assault on Ulthuan is almost in stores, so this week we’ll look even further ahead to the next Battle Pack in The Corruption Cycle, The Warpstone Chronicles. Offering an impressive array of formidable attachments with the “relic” keyword, this Battle Pack will bring new levels of excitement to your Warhammer: Invasion game.
Relics are support cards that represent iconic and well-known artifacts from the world of Warhammer, and to the stoic Dwarfs, no artifact is more important than the Great Book of Grudges (coming next month in The Warpstone Chronicles). This massive tome lists the many slights against the Dwarfs, and mighty warriors who consult it fight with an increased fervor as they right the wrongs done to their people.
Attached to a unit that compounds this “Grudge effect,” the Great Book of Grudges can be even more devastating. Take, for example, the Slayers of Karak Kadrin (Assault on Ulthuan), which can be sacrificed to destroy a target attacking unit. Attaching the Great Book of Grudges to this unit means that when you sacrifice it, you can take advantage of two effects back-to-back!
Don’t have Slayers of Karak Kadrin in your hand? The Grudge Thrower offers a similar synergy... and without saying too much, this mechanic will take on an even greater prominence for the Dwarfs in future releases. In short, if you're going to strike at the Dwarfs, you'd better be prepared for a swift and punishing retaliation.

@Kako - because the idea be presented here is an aggressive Dwarf deck with slayers slamming your opponents weakest zone for three damage and then being able to sacrifice them on your opponents next attack to get rid of an attacker, and still being able to deal 6 indirect... not to say that is the ideal way of playing them, but it is a way.
@Lorien - The Great Book of Grudges is a Constant effect which triggers as the attached unit enters the discard pile. Sacrificing the Slayers is a cost of triggering their ability so it happens before their effect totally resolves... So yes the opponent would have to deal with the six indirect damage before he would have to destroy the targeted attacking unit.
Conclusion - The Slayers is not the unit I would put this support on. Zhufbar Engineers on the other hand... Their forced effect would resolve after The Great Book of Grudges which means to avoid the double whammy the opponent would have to clear out the units in that corresponding zone, which is rarely going to be the smart choice.
Why don't the Slayers of Karak Kadrin have the Slayer trait?? The designers must surely have a very good reason for not adding the Slayer trait. Do any of you know the reason behind this decision??
Is it mentioned in a book or some other published source material that the Slayers of Karak Kadrin are not slayers at all???
Corwin1980, Great Book has the Flag symbol before its name, indicating it is Unique.
Will there be an additional piece of ruling which stipulates Relics are unique? Otherwise you could have a bunch of Great Books of Grudges in play, which would be unthematic.
Great. More Dwarf stuff that makes them harder to beat...
All I can say about that relic is "WOW"! That's insane!!! Get that sucker out in the early game and it can really step up the pace!
Nice to see some new kick ass cards for the Dwarves!
I wonder why one should waste the two extra power on a unit like slayers. Attach it to a cheap unit in your kingdom for early high ressourcing. Send it over to the enemys capital with thrower later when you dont need it anymore. Maybe a chance to get out enough units early to block a rush.
Wouldn't the attacker be able to assign some of the 6 indirect damage from Great Book of Grudges to the unit that will be destroyed by the Slayers because of the stack last in first out rules?
Nice combo with cannoncrew. With a little luck you can get 3p in your kingdom zone at turn 2.
Ah but so thematic! Chaos with its 4 gods & Dark Elves with leftover abilities from their High Elf days & trying to steal everyone's mojo, no wonder the 2 races have an identity crisis!
Going to be interesting to see what the Chaos and Dark Elf relics do. I still think FFG is having a hard time separating the two.
