A Card of the Week for A Game of Thrones: The Card Game
A Game of Thrones LCG | Published 24 February 2010

Welcome to FFG HQHello A Game of Thrones fans! The snow is still thick on the ground in our own little Winterfell of FFG HQ, but the sun is starting to come back out again and our fingers are unfrozen enough to type another Card of the Week.

We apologize for the early card preview this week: we have a big A Game of Thrones announcement to make later this week and we didn't want to lose this little tradition under it.

Not that the imminent arrival of the next pack in Defenders of the North is small potatoes. This set is so far really exciting for those with a love of the Night's Watch and Wildlings. Of course, for those whose interests lie South of the Wall, there's plenty of cool stuff as well, and as a pre-Beyond the Wall release present, we present this little beauty, Bronze Shield.

Bronze Shield has a nice cancel effect and if you have a cheap character that you aren't terribly attached to, you wouldn't be against throwing that character on an event grenade. Examples of such cheap, potentially disposable characters are House Dayne Knight (Princes of the Sun, F11); Refugee of the Citadel (Refugees of War, F92) if you know you aren't going to win Dominance; Fleabottom Scavenger (A Time of Trials, F35) if it's already done its job; or maybe Orphan of the Greenblood, (Princes of the Sun, F15) if the event you're canceling is bad enough.

The little side bonus of drawing a card in Summer is also a nice feature of Bronze Shield, but consider the possibility of attaching it to a high-STR character like Areo Hotah (Princes of the Sun, F5) or Desert Exiles (Scattered Armies, F112) and then, when your opponent plays an event that you'd like to cancel, you kill this beefy character with Bronze Shield and then play Blood for Blood (Princes of the Sun, F20). This combo hits your opponent with the double-whammy of having had an event canceled, followed by getting a character killed, potentially another high-STR character. (This combo courtesy of Nate French)

That's it for this week's Card of the Week. We hope it encourages heated discussion of Bronze Shield (and our stealth-CotW, Frozen Moat) here in the comments and on the A Game of Thrones forums. Until next week!

BUT WAIT! Be sure to come back on Friday for an announcement regarding A Game of Thrones: The Card Game!

I hope the announcement will have something to do with the LCG and they do not mean the Battle Lore Game of Thrones game

The cards are cool...very much looking forward to using that Stark location. Text blanking is a lot more powerful than people give credit.

But the real news is this announcement...any ideas? Sounds major by the language and tone. I am keeping my fingers crossed for a new OP system.
