An evil wizard has placed the Great Dragon, the protector of the realm, into a stony slumber, its fiery breath locked away in a ruby jewel called the Dragonheart. With the land’s guardian imprisoned, trolls and fire dragons run amuck, barely held in check by brave knights and canny huntresses. Meanwhile, enigmatic sorceresses tap the magic of the Dragonheart to their own ends...
As a disciple of the Great Dragon, it is up to you bring order to the various factions in an attempt to free him. Or, as a minion of the evil wizard, you must see that the Great Dragon sleeps forever. Will you free the people of the land from the terrors that plague them, or forever doom them to suffering?
Dragonheart is a card game of brave heroes and mighty creatures for two players, playable in only 20 minutes. Opponents try to accumulate points by playing cards to and collecting cards from the game board. Controlling the power of the Dragonheart provides a great advantage... but who will control it when the game ends (adding points to their score)? The player with the most points at the end of the game determines the fate of the Great Dragon and the land itself.
Dragonheart’s easy-to-learn rules gets you into the action quickly, and the tense back-and-forth between you and your opponent delivers an exciting game every time. To begin, each player draws a hand of five cards from his deck (a red deck represents the Evil Wizard’s forces and a green deck represents the Disciples of the Great Dragon). Each card has an image that matches a space on the board, as well as a number indicating the points that card is worth.
On your turn, you may play a single type of card (dwarves, for example), playing as many of that one type as you like (you may place three dwarves on the board, but not two dwarves and a sorceress); some spaces will hold an unlimited number of cards, while others hold only two, three, or four (as indicated by an outline on the board). If you place the final card on such a space, you “trigger” it, reaping the rewards. A series of arrows on the board indicate which rewards are given based on which placements, so play is fast and intuitive.
The result is a tense battle for control of the best spaces on the board, as you attempt to collect matching sets of cards in your hand. Should you place an additional treasure chest, hoping to profit from it on the next turn, or will your opponent swoop in to take it first? Should you play another knight to make room in your hand, or will this just benefit your opponent, who needs that knight to complete the set?
Dragonheart will have you and your opponent outguessing and outmaneuvering each other as you race to collect the largest piles of cards... and maybe even the Great Dragon himself. Will you wake him from his long slumber?
