I Played My First Game, But My Players Weren't Thrilled…
Published on 18 July 2012 - 13:55:16

Ok, this may be a silly question, but after we all looked through the rules, we found nothing to answer the question.  We played through the 1st story and as the keeper I won.  The Shogoth was making his way through the house and this is where the question arose….if an investigator passes through a space with a monster, they have to make an evade test and if they fail, the monster gets to take a whack at them…however, there are no rules that make allowances for the investigators to take a whack at a monster that is attempting to flee past them.  Is this accurate?  Are there really no rules in place to allow the investigators to attempt to take a pound of flesh off of a monster as it tries to escape past them?

Yep, investigators need to evade, monsters bully through them. Could be the investigators cower away from the monster, especially something like a Shoggoth (what, you want to get close, like hand to hand range, with that thing!?).

A dirty mind is its own reward.

Scenario 2 is designed to be monster-centric. Try scenario 1 with your team—that one's pretty good all round.

"Ashcan" Pete will take that off your hands when you're done with it.
Charlie Kane would befriend a strangled cat if given the chance.
Finn Edwards has very deep pockets.
Hank Samson does not care that you've mastered time travel.
Lily Chen can punch a hue.
Lola Hayes is the world's best Egyptologist.
Mark Harrigan is very good at hedge mazes.
Michael McGlen has never experienced an earthquake.
Minh Thi Phan makes group hugs empowering.
Patrice Hathaway plays songs you can't get out of your head.
Tommy Muldoon is most qualified to be deputy, yet for some reason nobody want him to be.
Tony Morgan sells meat out of the back of his van.
Ursula Downs can shop at an empty store.
Wendy Adams always wins at hide and seek.
William Yorick has a Bachelor's in Cryptozoology—no wonder he can't find work.
Wilson Richards will paint over anything for a dollar.
Zoey Samaras can torch a fire vampire.
