No, there is no actual limit.
There is a practical "limit" based on the available advance slots in the PC's career(s) that a PC can purchase, as well as the PC's ability to attain and utilize the stance pieces. For example, it is useless to have more stance pieces (in a single direction) than a PC's characteristics, since stance dice replace characteristic dice. If a PC's highest stat is 4, then it is pointless to have 5 Reckless pieces, since only 4 can be ever be used. Of course, a PC could still have 4 stance pieces in both Reckless and Conservative directions, making a stance track that is 9 pieces long, if they desired. It is impractical, and inefficient, but certainly allowable.

Actually it is not true that it is impractical. There are cards that key off of depth of stance. Like your soak being depth of reckless stance for Bright Wizard spell (don't have card with me). And there might be a vague 6 stance limit if you look at the character sheet. It seems like there is an unwritten (as far as I know) rule about six being limits on certain things.
